Roger Ailes apparently on way out at Fox News
Asked by The Hollywood Reporter if her client was in talks to negotiate his exit from Fox, she replied, “There are a lot of ideas floating around, but no final decision has been made by anybody”.
“When there is an agreement, if there is an agreement, 21st Century Fox will make an announcement”, Estrich said. Given the styles of those two men, Ailes’s exit could be its own Fox News-type affair, full of counter-attacks that are light on fact but heavy on vitriol. Carlson said Fox News had nourished an atmosphere of harassment, and the broadcaster did not renew her contract when it ended last month. Shine is considered a leading candidate to step in for Ailes. The Daily Beast reported that Fox News initially confirmed Drudge’s report before walking back that confirmation.
Drudge, a widely-read conservative news site, also shared what appeared to be a unsigned separation agreement.
The company statement, noticeably in the present tense, doesn’t rule out the possibility that Ailes could officially leave in the coming hours or days. “Rupert comes to town next week – for now there’s no deal in place and no terms have been agreed to”.
In a video posted to Twitter Tuesday, Carlson said she wants “to support all women who have been victims of sexual harassment” and said that “it’s so important that we will not be silenced”. Staffers were not formally told anything by the company.
In a tweet, Fox said, “Roger is at work”.
Daily Intelligencer, citing sources, previously reported that 21st Century Fox co-Chairmen Rupert and Lachlan Murdoch and CEO James Murdoch had decide to fire Ailes in light of the allegations.
A statement on Tuesday came amidst a swirl of contradictory reports that Ailes had been ousted as head of the influential network.
The most explosive part of Sherman’s report involved Kelly, Fox’s 9 p.m. host.
With the recent claims by Kelly – one of the network’s biggest stars, especially after she brazenly challenged Donald Trump’s misogyny during the Republican debates past year – Fox executives are ready to cut Ailes loose, according to reports.
Kelly’s agent did not return requests for comment from news agencies on Tuesday.
And the New York-based law firm conducting the review – Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison – has not commented on the review. DEVELOPING…” Sherman responded by tweeting, “Drudge headline is Ailes spin attempt at spin, Fox source in Cleveland says talent has not set meeting to stage walk out.
There was some evidence this campaign that Fox’s influence with Republicans had been waning, since the network had gotten into battles with Trump.
Ailes has denied the claims and called the lawsuit “wholly without merit”.
The elder Mr. Murdoch has been in touch with his sons about the matter and when he returns from vacation in the south of France next week expects to bring it to a resolution, one of the people familiar with the matter said.
“We take these matters seriously”, Fox said in the July 6 statement.
