Caitlyn Jenner’s 1984 Summer Olympic Torch Up for Auction
The 1984 Summer Olympics torch that Caitlyn Jenner carried through Lake Tahoe, Nevada ( when she was known as Bruce Jenner ), is being auctioned off, Page Six has noted.
The 24-inch torch is the first piece of memorabilia set to be sold from Jenner’s former days as an Olympic athlete following the gold medalist’s revelation that she is transgender. It had a presale estimate of $20,000.
“This torch serves as a wonderful symbol that masculinity and femininity are not mutually exclusive”, Ivy said. “Jenner has played both gender roles masterfully”. Seven kilometers went to individuals and 42 to local organizations. Jenner was asked to run the remaining 1,000 meters. It’s being sold by a Massachusetts woman whose great-great-uncle is among the players pictured on the card.
This June 30, 2015 photo provided by Heritage Auctions shows the front of a circa 1860 Brooklyn Atlantics baseball card.
While the torch has received the most press, Fleisher said, there are other “amazing” sports memorabilia up for auction as well, including a team baseball card estimated at $50,000 that has been passed down through one family for 155 years.
The Atlantics were a founding member of baseball’s first organized league, the National Association of Base Ball Players, and reigned as champions from 1859 through 1861, reported by Dallas-based Heritage Auction officials.
