Thousands gather to mourn, honor 3 slain officers in Dallas

The older girl is Caroline Smith, 10, whose father, Sergeant Michael Smith was gunned down by crazed sniper Micah Johnson in downtown Dallas last Thursday.
Tyler police officers were among thousands who attended funerals Wednesday for Dallas Area Rapid Transit Officer Brent Thompson and Dallas PD Sr. Lorne Ahrens, 48, a father of two and husband to a fellow DPD detective, was affectionately called “Meat”.
“Lorne was passionate about police work”, Officer Eddie Coffey said.

Smith’s younger sister, Yea-Mei Smith, spoke at the service, calling her brother her role model and mentor.
Funeral services have not yet been held for two other slain officers, Patricio Zamarripa, 32, known as Patrick, to be buried Saturday, and Michael Krol, for whom services are still pending. He said the department has historically sent the honor guard to attend funeral services for every transit officer killed in the line of duty.
After the memorial service, a funeral for Thompson was scheduled for Wednesday afternoon in Corsicana, south of Dallas, where he lived. There will be a balloon launch to honor the slain officers as well.
