Liverpool seal big-money deal for Dutch forward Wijnaldum
Liverpool have done some shrewd business bringing in Georginio Wijnaldum, two of his former Newcastle United coaches have revealed to ESPN FC.
The Dutch worldwide joined Newcastle in July 2015 from PSV Eindhoven for £14.5m and went on to score 11 goals in 38 Premier League appearances for the Magpies but could not prevent their relegation to the Championship.
Wijnaldum, signed from PSV Eindhoven last summer for £14.5million, came off the bench and scored in Saturday’s 6-0 win over Bohemian in Dublin.
“I am so happy that we have got him and he can join us now in the U.S.”, the Reds boss told the club’s official website.
Liverpool’s £25 million bid includes a player fee of £23 million plus a £1 million appearance-related add-on fee along with an additional £1 million for various targets that he could achieve with the club. “This is the home of football”.
Liverpool have already signed Mane, Joel Matip, Marko Grujic, Loris Karius and Ragnar Klavan, and is expected to follow up the capture of Wijnaldum with even more signings.
At present the chief architect who plays a key role in designing Liverpool’s attack is Coutinho, who since joining the club from Inter Milan in January 2013, has become one of the best playmaker’s in Europe.
Wijnaldum, who will fly out to join Liverpool on their pre-season tour of the United States, said he was equally excited at the prospect of working with manager Jurgen Klopp. “We will be ready for the season, 100 per cent”.
Who makes your XI this season? “At the moment, it is still a case of waiting with him”.
“Time says it’s not possible to play 50 games a year but if I’m called up I’m definitely there for games, I will play”.
“Grant is a young player with a lot of ambition to improve and keep growing with us”. So far fans have been impressed with Newcastle’s activity in the transfer market, and now we’ll see what Benitez does with the money from Liverpool.
