Georgia news anchor killed at Rainbow Falls
A Georgia news anchor died just a day shy of her 25th birthday after she fell from the peak of a 150-foot-tall waterfall in North Carolina.
Taylor would have turned 25 today. Taylor Terrell was crossing a stream above Rainbow Falls waterfall in North Carolina when she lost her footing and was got swept away by the current.
Terrell, an avid hiker, anchored 41NBC News at Daybreak and 41Today and had taken Friday off for her birthday.
In a statement, WMGT news director Brandon Long noted that Taylor’s colleagues are mourning the loss of their friend. “She was a bright spot in the mornings for us here at 41NBC for about two years, and she loved working as a reporter”, he said.
A woman is dead after she fell off the top of a waterfall at Rainbow Falls, a deputy confirmed.
Rainbow Falls is located in Gorges State Park, about 55 miles from Asheville in Transylvania County. She started as a general assignment reporter and filled in to produce and anchor the Sunday night newscast.
The death of Terrell was actually the seventh waterfall related death that happened in Transylvania County, N.C., this year. She was born in Atlanta, raised in Conyers, and a graduate of Heritage High School and Georgia Southern University, according to her Facebook and station website biography.
Family members spent the weekend planning her funeral services for July 30th.
Forest Service spokeswoman Cathy Dowd, speaking to Reuters, said that waterfalls could be unsafe.
