Captain Marvel: Brie Larson is Marvel’s Newest Hero
When MTV UK asked her about the potential casting, she initially mixed the character – a United States Air Force soldier named Carol Danvers – up with another Marvel Captain, Captain America, as she’d never heard of Captain Marvel. She was named Marvel’s official Captain Marvel in 2012 in tribute to the original, killed off via cancer in a 1982 graphic novel, with the Ms. Marvel moniker going to Kamala Khan, Marvel’s first headlining Muslim character.
The movie was originally announced with a July 2018 date, but was later moved back to March 8, 2019, however Captain Marvel is expected to debut in a cameo or post-credits scene of another Marvel movie before then. She has also recently appeared in the comedy Trainwreck and the critically acclaimed art house film Short Term 12. And she fits nicely in the universe of cocky, wisecracking heroes that we’ve seen since the first Iron Man movie: She’s a control freak with a big ego and a quick temper. Does this mean that Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel will butt heads in the box office? The original Captain Marvel was a male. Among other things, the studio talked a bit about Captain Marvel, their first solo female superhero movie. Widow has struggled to get the presence that she deserves in Marvel’s toy lines, with fans (including Mark Ruffalo, who plays Hulk) demanding this be rectified. Larson additionally confirmed her participation in the film on Twitter.
Larson won the Best Actress Academy Award this year for her performance in “Room”. However, one of the biggest reveals came from Marvel Studios when they announced that “Room” star Brie Larson had been offiically cast as Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel.
