Anderson Varejao reportedly won’t accept National Basketball Association championship ring if Cavs offer it
Varejao played for the Warriors in the Finals against Cleveland and in the process became the first player in National Basketball Association history to play for both Finals teams in the same season. Varejao spent the first 11 1/2 seasons with Cleveland, including the first half of the 2015-16 season before he was traded to Portland at the trade deadline.
Varejao’s numbers are not very impressive as he only averaged 2.6 points and 2.3 rebounds in 22 appearances for the Warriors in the regular season.
It does say a lot about Varejao’s character that he won’t accept a championship ring he had little to do with.
However, per Fox Sports Ohio’s Sam Amico, it appears Varejao will refuse the offer from the Cavaliers – if presented. The Trail Blazers then waived Varejao and he signed with the Warriors on what looked to be a push for his first championship.
The 6-11 big man spent 11 full seasons with the Cavaliers before being dealt to the Trail Blazers on February 18 in a three-team deal that involved the Magic, who sent Channing Frye to the Cavs. Although Varejao is a bench player who sees limited playing time, coach Steve Kerr still finds clever ways to use the 6-10 veteran. When he flops, an opposing player could put one in the palm of his hand and offer to help him up.The possibilities are endless. As if that wasn’t clear enough, Varejao has now decided he’s not going to accept it so don’t even bother.
Varejao played against the Cavs with the Warriors in the most recent NBA Finals, but began the season with Cleveland.
