Illinois Republican lawmaker resigns, cites Facebook, Twitter hacks
“But after some cyber security issues arose, I began to re-evaluate my continued public service”, Sandack said, according to the Sun-times, adding he also wished to spend more time with his family. I am no longer willing to miss important family events.
Ron Sandack, the vocal floor leader for the GOP minority in the House, said in a statement issued by the Republican leadership that his resignation was effective immediately.
His challenger in that race, Downers Grove social studies teacher Keith Matune, played on Sandack’s 2013 vote in favor of marriage equality. Officials at the department failed to comment on the matter, urging media outlets to file public-records requests for any information.
Sandack, the Republican floor leader in the Illinois House, is well known in Illinois politics for being a prolific user of Twitter and Facebook – but those social media accounts were taken down last week, the Daily Herald reported.
Sandack was seeking re-election for a third term in the Illinois House. But accounts on both had been removed Monday. Before his tenure as a representative, Sandack was a state senator and the mayor of Downers Grove. “I spoke with Ron yesterday afternoon and respect his decision to resign”. Sandack, a Downers Grove Republican, announced his resignation Monday after six years in the Legislature. He was due to face-off against Democrat current Downers Grove Village Board member Greg Hosé in November to retain his seat. Area Republican leaders will choose his replacement.
“I’m saddened to hear about the idea of computer hacking driving somebody out”, Hose said.
