Wasserman Schultz faces another political headache – in her House race
“According to the emails, top DNC officials used party resources to monitor, respond to, and impede my campaign on numerous occasions”, Canova said in a statement emailed to Reuters by his campaign.
Her ouster came after a firestorm over hacked emails that suggested the DNC favored Hillary Clinton in the presidential primaries against Bernie Sanders.
Ms. Wasserman Schultz said Sunday she’s resigning as DNC chairwoman after the convention, in the wake of the embarrassing leak of thousands of internal DNC emails that appeared to show DNC staffers musing about how to undermine Sen. But she stepped aside, bowing to pressure from Democrats who feared the mere sight of her on stage would prompt strong opposition from Sanders’ backers.
Her resignation also comes as party officials are already concerned about existing turmoil among Sanders’ supporters who feel maligned by the DNC’s handling of their candidate and their disapproval of Clinton’s decision to pick a moderate Democrat as her VP. About 200 pro-Sanders protesters gathered to support their candidate, expressing anger about the leaked emails.
Chanting “Bernie, Bernie” and “Hell no, Hillary”, the group rallied for a little more than an hour.
Is it fair to say her resignation trumps (pardon the pun) anything that happened at the Republican convention in Cleveland?
“It’s a slap in the face to Bernie”, Graunstadt said. “She should be out”. It was there Wasserman Schultz earned her reputation as a workhorse and outspoken liberal willing to spar with Republicans on television.
“The Wikileaks shows this election was fraudulent”, Graunstadt said. “What we’ve been saying for months is obviously true: they had the finger on the scale of the campaign”, he said. He is scheduled to speak at the convention on Monday evening. Sanders was booed by his own supporters at a Monday afternoon meeting when he said, “We have to stop Donald Trump”.
Norman Solomon, an influential Sanders delegate, said there was deep unhappiness among supporters of the Vermont senator in Philadelphia with parts of the Democratic platform and with Clinton’s vice presidential pick.
Protesters held up signs that read “Bernie” and “E-MAILS” and shouted “Shame”, as she spoke. Nearby, Caitlin Codoni of Seattle sported a pair of novelty socks with Sanders’ likeness, but she expressed disgust at the election process.
If you know two things about Jennifer Granholm, you probably know that A: She ran the state of MI into the ground like a gubernatorial kamikaze pilot, and B: Her biggest claim to fame is an epic appearance on the Dating Game back in the 70’s. “By persuading you that the real problem in America is your fellow Americans – people who don’t look like you, or don’t talk like you, or don’t worship like you”. The leaked emails are too much of a burden for her to continue running the party, she said.
Clinton’s Republican opponent, Donald Trump, wasted no time in commenting on the situation on Twitter.
“He says what he means, and he will do it whether it is agreeable or not”, Weston said.
