DNC 2016: Die-hard Sanders backers divided on backing Clinton
WikiLeaksDemocratic National Committee (DNC) chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz announced Sunday that she would resign at the end of the party convention, amid furor over embarrassing leaked emails showing the DNC’s bias against presidential contender Bernie Sanders.
Taking her place is Northeast Ohio woman Marcia Fudge, whose big task of the night was to unite everyone at the convention.
BRIAN WILLIAMS: Tonight’s speakers, aside from Senator Sanders, include MA senator and chief Donald Trump agitator, Elizabeth Warren and First Lady Michelle Obama, one of the more popular figures in the Democratic Party addressing the delegates and a national television audience tonight.
During the convention’s first hour, Sanders supporters repeatedly booed and chanted, which resulted in a reaction from Clinton delegates and a deafening roar.
If he’s smart, Canova won’t be hitting his opponent so much on her failure to operate a fair primary process, but rather on the idea which Sanders supporters are still up in arms about. He said that he was proud to stand with Clinton.
The FBI is also looking into the email breach, which has sparked speculation to the effect that Russian President Vladimir Putin is seeking to divide the Democratic party in the hope that it will boost his preferred candidate, the Republican Party’s Donald Trump.
“I’m proud that, in the Democratic platform that was passed a few weeks ago, we are making some real progress”, Sanders said on CNN Sunday.
“If this is something we had known about months ago, or even a year ago when this all kicked off, maybe we would be looking at nominating Bernie this week”, Henson said. Outside the convention hall, several hundred Sanders backers marched down Philadelphia’s sweltering streets with signs carrying messages such as “Never Hillary”. “He says we’ve got to defeat Trump”, said Lawrence Hamm, a Sanders delegate from Montclair, New Jersey. In a lot of ways, she became the face of the Democratic Party. Bowen, D-Milwaukee, got plaudits among the Vermont senator’s loyal Wisconsin fan base for being the state’s only superdelegate to back Sanders’ White House bid after he won the Wisconsin primary.
Four Nevadans took the stage on Monday night and argued that Hillary Clinton will fight for immigrant families.
Yet officials with the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee made clear Monday they have no plans to spend money to save her. Top committee leaders told reporters that they do not spend money on safe Democratic seats, which hers is, because they need to save resources for states they are trying to save or flip.
Wasserman Schultz continued to speak despite the protest.
Other Nevadans who spoke included Ortiz’s mother, who appealed for immigration reform in Spanish, and Democratic state Sen.
The signs referenced the controversy over roughly 20,000 leaked DNC emails that showed some staffers plotting against and disregarding the Sanders primary campaign.
