Bill Clinton tells a love story to make his case for Hillary

While aides have said he will not get a Cabinet post or a seat in the Situation Room should his wife win, Clinton has made clear that her closest adviser will remain involved with her administration, saying he’d likely have a role in managing the nation’s economy. It was in the early years after he left the White House that his friendships with wealthy playboys became tabloid fodder. Sidelined by Hillary Clinton’s 2008 presidential campaign, Bill Clinton went rogue and started lashing out at Barack Obama.

But she has had to clean up after him at times – most recently in the aftermath of Bill Clinton’s private, impromptu meeting with Attorney General Loretta Lynch at the Phoenix airport in June. But it was intentional: It was meant to mimic his audience’s skepticism of Hillary at first, and then use it to make them fall in love with her. As Bill gets to know Hillary, he quickly realizes that the qualities that made her seem intimidating and out of reach were actually qualities that made her more human: They stemmed from an unquenchable drive to get things done and an impatience with those who weren’t as committed to productive social change. “He loves, and needs, to have a objective”.

Bill Clinton felt pressure to perform for his wife and make up for his own missteps during her second presidential campaign.

Separating Bill Clinton’s accomplishments from Hillary Clinton’s record proved hard for her campaign during the primary season, particularly after years of the couple famously marketing themselves as “two for the price of one”.

It’s been more than 14 years since she vouched for Bill Clinton on “60 Minutes” after the allegations of an affair with Gennifer Flowers surfaced (1992), tried to remake American healthcare (1993), wrote the book “It Takes a Village” to soften her image (1996) and vouched for Bill in yet another sex scandal (1998).

Clinton’s 2016 DNC speech, however, was something of a bait and switch. “Now it’s a little bit more complicated with him because people still call former presidents Mr. President”, she said on Jimmy Kimmel Live back in February. “As he said, people in Arkansas didn’t know that she was the reason that they were benefiting from so many of these different programs”. After repeating that Hillary is the “best darn change maker I’ve ever met in my life“, Bill assured every American that President Hillary Clinton will fight for a better future – no matter who they are.

“God bless him, Bill even looks old now”, said Republican strategist Alex Castellanos. He enjoys working overseas – his popularity is sky-high in many foreign countries – and he likes calling up whomever he wants, whenever he wants, especially his wife.

Tina Flournoy, who is Bill Clinton’s chief of staff, noted that he has been a prodigious campaigner and fundraiser throughout the campaign at Hillary Clinton’s request – a role that political analysts have described as a net asset for her candidacy. “If Secretary Clinton is elected, he will continue to support her whenever and wherever he’s asked”, Flournoy said.

“It takes Bill Clinton!”. Some of that is expected to fall to the Clintons’ daughter, Chelsea.

“This is more personal”, said Podesta, who recalled riding to the convention hall with Bill Clinton as he touched up his 2004 convention address.

Clinton was always going to talk about himself at the DNC-it’s what he does.

For her part, Hillary Clinton sees the prospect of Bill Clinton back in the White House as a selling point.

“She would certainly seek his advice and counsel”, said Nick Merrill, a spokesman for Hillary Clinton. “Beyond that, it being July, it would be getting ahead of oneself to talk about any sort of formalized role for anyone in an administration”.
