Doom Free Update 2 Adds new Game Modes, Paid DLC Detailed
That doesn’t mean id Software is about to give up: the next major multiplayer update for Doom is scheduled for release on July 29, and will add in two new modes to the already-existing suite of options. “Sector is an objective-based capture-and-hold mode where players compete to take control of zones and then hold them to score points”. The bundle will include three new multiplayer maps, a new player-controlled demon called the Harvester, the UAC EMG Pistol, the Kinetic Mine, new hack modules, and new armor sets, patterns, colors, and taunts. There is also a new playable character, a demon called the Mancubus, 30 Hell-themed modules and an increased weapon list.
The video posted above also teases the first premium DLC pack on the way, Unto the Evil. To celebrate the upcoming Quakecon and the Update 2, iD will be hosting Double XP weekend starting on July 29. Let us know in the comments if you’re looking forward to trying the game’s new multiplayer content.
“If a DLC map comes up as part of the rotation, you and your party can play just as you have with the game’s original multiplayers maps”, Bethesda explained.
But all of this is only a taste, as Unto the Evil launches next week. The team also made mention of the Unto the Evil DLC, which is the first premium content for the game since it released. That’s not necessarily bad, but it’s far from popular – even the Steam Summer Sale wasn’t able to make much of an impact, and Doom’s numbers shrank back down nearly immediately. If you are in a party with someone who owns the DLC, or you own the DLC and other people are in your party, everyone in the party can play the DLC maps.
