Hillary Clinton Makes History Accepting Democratic Nomination
During her wide-ranging speech, which called for unity while touching on topics of immigration, healthcare, education, and the economy, the former First Lady, Secretary of State, and NY senator pulled no punches against Trump, whom she said “can’t even handle the rough-and-tumble of a presidential campaign”.
Clinton, the first woman to earn a major party presidential nomination in American history, worked to reverse the Republican narrative, touting her past work in the State Department and the U.S. Senate as a clear advantage over her reality-TV star opponent, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.
She portrayed Trump as volatile, saying “a man you can bait with a tweet is not a man we can trust with nuclear weapons”. And also when she spoke about her experience with disabled children, and the time she wonderfully said, “When there are no ceilings, the sky is the limit”, it touched me and I am sure many others.
Chelsea Clinton’s dad, former President Bill Clinton (r.) watches her speech with her husband, Marc Mezvinsky. Reporter: Their chants repeatedly interrupting her speech. “But in Hillary Clinton’s America, millions of people are left out in the cold”. “And to all of your supporters here and around the country: I want you to know, I’ve heard you”. Our country needs your ideas, energy and passion. “That is the only way we can turn our progressive platform into real change for America”.
“Our founders embraced the enduring truth that we are stronger together”. “America is once again at a moment of reckoning”. “Powerful forces are threatening to pull us apart”. Bonds of trust and respect are fraying. And just as with our founders there are no guarantees. It’s truly is up to us. “We’re going to help you balance family and work”. He’s forgetting every last one of us. “Will we stay true to that motto?” She also did not shy away from going after her Republican foe, Donald Trump, repeatedly mentioning him by name and highlighting his most controversial remarks on the campaign trail.
But others say they are so disappointed with the Democratic Party that they are planning to vote for Green Party presidential nominee Jill Stein, or another third party candidate. “That’s why we’re here – not just in this hall, but on this earth”. However, she has emerged as a devoted campaigner for her mother and her appearance was much anticipated at the event, as she offered unique insight into Hillary Clinton as a mother and grandmother.
In her vision for the next four years, Clinton promised to “create more opportunity and more good jobs” throughout the country.
During Hillary Clinton’s first presidential bid in 2008, the former first daughter went to great lengths to avoid the press, and on one memorable occasion told a fourth-grade “kid reporter” from Scholastic News that she “doesn’t talk to the press”. She also addressed how supportive her parents have been through the years.
