Panthers arrive for training camp in Spartanburg

Pro Bowl defensive tackle Kawann Short said he won’t hold out while awaiting a new contract from the Carolina Panthers. This type of disappointment can linger for a team that made it as far as they did and accomplished as much as they did a season ago.

The team will continue training at Wofford College through preseason, which starts August 11.

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) — Cam Newton’s stellar 2015 season helped him become the first Carolina Panthers player to earn NFL MVP honors.

“Right now I’m focused on making the team, securing a role, just helping these other wideouts get better”, he said. “I had a good conversation with him numerous times. That’s not how this game works”.

Early wasn’t the only one that showed up a few hours early. You can’t do that, you’ve got to be dedicated through the times we lose the games, just like we did with the Falcons a year ago.

George Olley of Spartanburg, a season ticket holder, said he thinks the Panthers will again be Super Bowl-bound based on last year’s NFC championship run.

When asked if he would do anything differently leading up to last year’s Super Bowl loss, Newton told the questioning reporter: “I think something you can do differently is focus on the 2016 season”.

“The safety and security of everyone at training camp, including our fans, is of the utmost importance”, she said.

There are 12 more chances to catch the Panthers in action at training camps this year. Does this linger on into the regular season?

The 6-foot-5, 245-pound Benjamin provides a huge target for Newton, something he missed at times last season.

Cam Newton, his hat, and blonde goatee, have taken the podium for the first time this camp. The entire coaching staff is returning, too.

The Panthers have had nearly a complete reset at the cornerback position. We did improve in a lot of areas past year, but you throw that out now.

Veteran Robert McClain seems to be the one who likely have the advantage over the rookies, as well as Johnson, who has plenty of experience as a nickelback.

Who Will Be the Slot Wide Receiver?

Carolina now holds 13 wide receivers on its roster.

“We’ve done a great job with the offseason workouts – lifting and running”. Newton is clearly as transparent off the field as he is on it.

“When you go through situations you want whats best for your family and whats best for the team, and Im really excited, ” Coleman said. “It’s a new season”. He will need to have a strong training camp though and stay healthy, which is something he hasn’t done the past two years.
