Vikings QB severs tendon in foot after kicking in door
MANKATO, Minn. – Minnesota Vikings quarterback Taylor Heinicke is expected to start the season on the non-football injury list.
If you’ve ever locked yourself out of your own house, you might have some sympathy for Vikings quarterback Taylor Heinicke.
Heinicke showed up to summer camp wearing a cast, and rolling around on a scooter, which prompted questions about how he sustained the injury.
According to the Twin Cities Pioneer Press, the second-year player out of Old Dominion will be sidelined for roughly three months after injuring his ankle trying to break into his home in Atlanta.
Coach Mike Zimmer said Heinicke will be out “a while”.
“I’m trying to nudge the door a little”.
The “freak accident”, as he put it, took place weeks ago, and he hopes to be ready for the September 11 regular-season opener against the Tennessee Titans. I thought it just needed a little nudge. The former Monarchs QB attempted to force the door open with his foot, but slipped and had his foot go through the window.
With any luck, Heinicke, who is the team’s third-string quarterback behind Teddy Bridgewater and Shaun Hill, will be healthy in time for the regular-season opener against Tennessee on September 11. Rather than risk placing him on the practice squad after a solid showing in the preseason, Heinicke spent the entire season on the active roster, although he never made it into a game.
