Manohar Lal Khattar blames Arvind Kejriwal for Gurgaon traffic jam
Thousands of Indians were left stranded overnight on Friday (July 29) as major traffic gridlock paralysed roads leading to a key business city near New Delhi and the authorities struggled to get the situation under control. “Changing name of the city from Gurgaon to Gurugram will not lead to development”.
“We have held a meeting of senior officials of the crisis management team for restoring traffic movement on the NH-8 and other arterial roads”.
National Highway-8, the main carriageway from Delhi to Jaipur, was choked as hundreds of trucks tailed each other and were unable to move due to the water-logging. The traffic jam started on Thursday around 4 PM after heavy rains, led to waterlogging near Hero Honda Chowk. “Vehicles, which were left stranded in the night as their engines ceased to work, have been removed by cranes”, said Dhesi. Several commuters were stuck in knee deep waters for hours without fuel or water. The Gurgugram Police has issued a warning asking people from Delhi to stay away from Gurugram as situation continues to remain grim.
It would take few more hours to restore the traffic, officials said.
The political blame game has already begun over the traffic situation in Gurugram. The Deputy Commissioner directed that wherever the flow of water was obstructed due to encroachment, the concerned engineer or staff may undertake removal of such encroachment on urgent basis with summary information to the concerned owner.
In Gurgaon, a rush to build more apartments, malls and office complexes in what is now known as the Millennium City ensured ponds, embankments and water channels that drained monsoon run-off vanished in the last three decades.
