Deadly Chicago police-involved shooting under investigation
A top Chicago police official says the department has “quite a few questions” after officers shot and killed a suspect in a stolen vehicle investigation.
Now an issue that the department and IPRA must address is whether officers followed department policy by shooting at the vehicle.
The shooting occurred during a stolen vehicle investigation. The Jaguar had been seen in several parts of the city earlier Thursday.
The Jaguar was blocked in by at least two police vehicles, but the officers opened fire when the driver tried to take off, side-swiping one squad auto and crashing into a parked vehicle, Guglielmi said. “It really upset me because I haven’t been this close to an incident like this since I moved over here in 1971”, said Adron Knighton, a neighbor.
This story has been updated to correct that investigators haven’t determined whether the third officer’s actions violated policy.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office said Friday it could not release the name of the man who was killed because his next of kin had not yet been notified.
About 6:50 p.m., officers responded to a separate call of a robbery in-progress on the 6700 block of South May Street in Englewood, police said in a statement.
He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he died, according to the news release. He says they were wearing body cameras and the police vehicles had cameras.
Police said investigators recovered a weapon at the scene. Evans also believes that cases have been reopened against him, such as one resulting from Rita King’s claim that Evans broke her nose for refusing to be fingerprinted.

A 24-year-old man who said he had just been robbed told police the person who robbed him had run down a nearby gangway.
The suspect was convicted and sentenced to life in prison.

A judge acquitted Evans of charges related to Williams in December.
‘Soon as he disappeared, they fired five more shots. “It was at that time that we believe two officers discharged their service weapons”, said John Escalante, First Deputy Superintendent, Chicago Police Department.
Officers saw a Jaguar S-Type convertible that had been reported stolen from Bolingbrook about 7:30 p.m., police said.
