Reds Have Only Received Weak Offers For Jay Bruce
The 29 year old Bruce is slashing.271/.323/.572 with 25 home runs and an NL best 79 RBI’s.
Cincinnati Reds president of baseball operations Walt Jocketty confirmed to reporters in San Diego the club is interested in trading Jay Bruce.
The Mets almost acquired Bruce from the Reds in exchange for Zack Wheeler prior to last year’s trade deadline, but dealt for Yoenis Cespedes instead.
According to Kristie Ackert of the Daily News, the Reds have scouted Mets C Kevin Plawecki in Triple-A Las Vegas, so it’s possible they could be looking to add him as a possible piece.
At the time, the left-handed-hitting Bruce was in the midst of his second-straight disappointing season. Archer has been rumored to be on his way out in Tampa Bay during this trade deadline period, and the Dodgers could use another front-line starter to team with Clayton Kershaw.
Even if this deal never gets done, it’s smart of the Mets to keep their options open.
These rumors also show the fans that despite the recent struggles, the club is not giving up on 2016 and is potentially looking to go all-in this year again.
There’s nothing to suggest a deal is imminent – and as of 10 p.m. Friday no one else other than Cotillo has linked the Braves to the Dodgers and Reds – but it does make sense, and Coppolella has been anything but boring since taking over. “I don’t think we want to do that”.
