UFC 201 Picks and Predictions 7/30/16 – Robbie Lawler vs. Tyron Woodley
“Ruthless” would avenge that decision loss by defeating “Bigg Rigg” at UFC 181 to claim the 170-pound title.
Robbie Lawler defends his UFC welterweight title tonight against No. 1 contender Tyron Woodley in the main event of UFC 201 from Atlanta.
Lawler competed in January in what many still consider to be the Fight of the Year when he beat Carlos Condit at UFC 195.
After winning fight of the night honors in four of his last six bouts, “Ruthless” has been labelled one of the most exciting warriors in modern MMA. Lawler has often proven himself in the championship rounds of fights, whereas Woodley has a history of not having the best cardio, and this fight with Lawler would be his first time entering into a five-round title bout.
‘The thing is, no one ever wants fight of the night, ‘ explained the champion. “It kind of irritated me so I just told him what I thought about the situation and his last fight and I don’t think he should be mentioned with me because I’m not like everybody else”. Lawler said:”He’s a heck of a competitor but I’m a fighter”. I want to knock people out’.
Woodley has been waiting a long time for his title shot, after being promised a fight for the belt after his proposed bout with Hendricks was cancelled in October previous year.
It has been a busy July for the UFC, unlike anything we’ve ever seen.
‘I’m not excited about this or that. When speaking with UFC commentator Joe Rogan, Woodley promised to shock the world and prove to everyone that he is the top welterweight in the world, saying “I’m the best welterweight in the world”. How will this welterweight title tilt play out?
