Klopp backs Mignolet after Karius injury
Loris Karius has taken to social media to insist that he will continue to stay as positive as possible after his disappointing injury setback following his transfer to Liverpool this summer.
But during a pre-season friendly 1-0 loss to Chelsea in Pasadena, Liverpool’s new man suffered a fracture in his hand which could require surgery in the following days.
The German custodian arrived at Anfield from Mainz this summer in a £4.7 million deal and was expected to take over between the sticks on Merseyside.
It is devastating news for the player and manager Jurgen Klopp, who had brought Karius in from the Bundesliga to compete with Simon Mignolet for the starting spot in Liverpool’s goal.
“It was a battle between him and Simon and now that battle is decided for the next few weeks 100%”.
“We know more about them than they can imagine”, said Klopp, presumably sneering while petting a hairless cat.
The 49-year-old has backed last season’s first-choice goalkeeper Simon Mignolet to perform in Karius’ stead, saying “everyone knows about [his] quality”.
“A broken bone in the hand for a goalkeeper isn’t great”.
Klopp added: “We have another three goalkeepers”.
“We have a few about him [Karius], we have a few about Simon Mignolet”.
The stopper is certain to miss Liverpool’s season opener against Arsenal when they travel to the Emirates on August 14th and he’ll also sit out further games against Burnley, Tottenham, Leicester, Chelsea and Hull.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp insists that the club have enough backup in their goalkeeping department after Loris Karius was ruled out for up to 10 weeks.
