Square Enix has “No Concrete Plans” to Localize Dragon Quest XI
The PS4 vesion of the game is being jointly developed between Square Enix and Orca and is being created on the Unreal Engine 4.
Dragon Quest XI was revealed in a press event yesterday. The game has previously been released only on Nintendo’s platforms, so this is the first time a Dragon Quest game will be available multiplatform.
Square Enix hopes to release the game in 2016, coinciding with the franchise’s 30th Anniversary.

While the PS4 display had all the standard hallmarks of a graphic-heavy RPG game on a console, the 3DS was completely stripped down, with two views (one on each tablet) giving users the option to watch in either 2D or 3D.
While specifics for the NX version haven’t yet been confirmed, the role-playing game will also be coming to Nintendo 3DS and PS4, with the two having unique features.
On Nintendo’s upcoming console, just earlier this month, a report revealed by Digitimes stated that Nintendo had now negotiated and signed a deal with Foxconn Electronics to assemble and experiment on the first line of Nintendo NX, starting this October. Since the game was only announced for Japan so far, it is unclear whether Square Enix is bringing it to the West or not.
“Though I cannot confirm when it will be launched or any other details of the system, since I have athat we do not intend it to become a simple “replacement” for Nintendo 3DS or Wii U”, Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata said during the company’s earnings report back in May as reported by GameSpot.
