Democrats cheer for one Republican
Two Republicans, including a former speechwriter for President Ronald Reagan, took the stage at the Democratic National Convention on Thursday urging their fellow party members to vote for Democrat Hillary Clinton.
Hillary Clinton says Donald Trump has brought the Republican Party a long way – from “Morning in America” to “Midnight in America”.
Donald Trump targeted casinos run and operated by Native Americans in 1993, when he testified before Congress they shouldn’t have special rights because he believed they were fronts for the mafia, controversially adding some of the people didn’t “look Indian”. Former Reagan administration official Doug Elmets explained that he’ll be voting Democratic for the first time in his life, and he used his own version of a now-famous political quote to do so, notes the Atlantic: “I knew Ronald Reagan”.
He drew loud cheers from the crowd when he said, “I’m here tonight to say I knew Ronald Reagan, I worked for Ronald Reagan”.
Democrats cheered when Republican Doug Elmets took the stage at their convention.
Wolf’s presence in the convention hall is a reminder that Republicans couldn’t feature a home-state governor at their convention in Cleveland last week.
He made a call to other Republicans to do the same, saying that “loyalty to country” matters more than “loyalty to party”.
Elmets said he disagrees with Clinton on many policy positions, but still finds her qualifications “indisputable”.
Chants of “lock her up” are going up at a Mike Pence rally in suburban Detroit. In 2005 and 2006, Trump donated to Hillary Clinton’s Senate campaign as well. “Trump! Trump!” to die down. “Trump wants to build one”.
He offered this analysis of the GOP’s presidential nominee:”Trump is a petulant, dangerously unbalanced reality star who will coddle tyrants and alienate allies”.
He says he wanted to “hit” some of them “so hard their heads would spin”. Former Republican and New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg also endorsed Clinton this week.
By the way, Bloomberg is listed as 5-foot-8 inches.
