“I Know a Con When I See One” — Bloomberg on Trump
Bloomberg concluded with a few simple words that laid out the simple pitch he was making: “Together, let’s elect a sane, competent person”.
But since Trump entered the race for president in June 2015, Bloomberg has taken issue with him, lashing out at his policies and fiery rhetoric, especially his call to ban Muslims from entering the country and his promise to wall off the Mexican border and deport millions of undocumented foreigners.
Political experts said Wednesday night that Bloomberg’s credentials, coupled with his powerful speech, will go a long way in wooing moderate and swing voters to Clinton’s side.
“Trump says he wants to run the nation like he runs his business”.
Trump claims to be worth $10 billion, but fact checkers, evidently including Bloomberg, have questioned that figure.
It’s NY billionaire vs. NY billionaire.
He called himself a ticket-splitter and criticized both parties, the Republicans for demonizing immigrants and Democrats for poor-mouthing the private sector. “He ended his tweet with the hashtag “#NeverHillary” in reference to his Democrat opponent, Hillary Clinton.
“Most of us who have created a business know that we’re only as good as good as the way our employees, clients and partners view us”.
“I’m a New Yorker”. And guess what. He never had the guts to do it. And now I see this guy up on stage saying negative things. “God help us”, Bloomberg said to loud applause from the Democratic crowd. “But she’s the right choice and responsible choice in this election”, he said.
Bloomberg, an independent, said that he was not appearing at the convention to endorse any party or platform, but he endorsed Hillary Clinton.
In the op-ed, he didn’t mention Clinton once, yet explained that his decision not to run was because “my candidacy could lead to the election of Donald Trump or Senator Ted Cruz”. “Now, we’ve heard a lot of talk in this campaign about needing a leader who understands business”. He wrote in March that the real estate mogul has run “the most divisive and demagogic presidential campaign I can remember, preying on people’s prejudices and fears”. I got it done in a year. I don’t know him well, ‘ Trump added. He says he wants to put Americans back to work, but he games the US visa system so he can hire temporary foreign workers at low wages. What did I miss here?
Longtime Bloomberg adviser Stu Loeser told ABC News the endorsement is a sign of Bloomberg’s dismay with Republican nominee and fellow billionaire Donald Trump.
Bloomberg previously had a cordial relationship with Trump, who he knew from New York’s glitzy social circuit and from dealings with him as a developer. He said he understands the dilemma faced by independents and undecided voters.
“He came out of nowhere”, Trump said Thursday.
