Blue Jays trade Chavez, acquire Feldman
Pittsburgh Pirates star pitcher Francisco Liriano has reportedly been traded to the Toronto Blue Jays. Buster Olney of ESPN.com reports that righty Drew Hutchison, who has a 3.26 ERA in 18 starts with Triple-A Buffalo, heads to Pittsburgh and Double-A outfielder Harold Ramirez heads to Toronto, as well.
Liriano has a 6-11 record this season in 21 starts with a 5.46 earned-run average and 116 strikeouts this season.
The best season of Liriano’s 11-year career came with Blue Jays catcher Russell Martin as his primary backstop.
In yet another move to bolster their pitching staff, Toronto acquired right-hander Scott Feldman from the Houston Astros for minor league right-hander Lupe Chavez.
Reliever Jesse Chavez, who had an up-and-down season after being acquired from Oakland in the offseason, was also traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers for Mike Bolsinger.
Feldman, 33, is 5-3 with a 2.90 ERA in 26 games this season.
In his career, the 32-year old LHP has been great, and not so great. He has also issued the most walks of anyone in the majors this year. He is 4-1 with 1.69 ERA in six starts this season. In 13 games (two starts) with Oklahoma (PCL) Bolsinger is 2-1 with a 3.41 ERA over 29 innings. Sanchez is 11-1 with a 2.71 ERA, but he’s thrown 139.1 innings, already soaring past his 92.1 innings previous year. Bolsinger made 21 starts for Los Angeles past year, going 6-6 with a 3.62 ERA.
