Story out of Rockies’ lineup vs Mets with jammed thumb

The Rockies, of course, would have loved to sweep four games from the Mets and return to Denver riding a six-game winning streak as they prepare to host the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday at Coors Field. NY sustained another costly injury, this one to shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera, but snapped a four-game skid that matched its longest this season.

“That’s huge for us now, so we just have to keep it rolling”, Bettis said.

“It feels good to get back on a nice little run here”, Rays manager Kevin Cash said. Brandon Nimmo had an RBI single as well for the Mets. Rain has delayed the start of the final game of the two teams four-game series.

The rookie shortstop, whose 27 home runs are the most in history by a first-year National League shortstop, went 1-for-2 before his exit. The Mets were swept last season by the Chicago Cubs (0-7) and Pittsburgh Pirates (0-6). Daniel Descalso had two RBI singles for the Rockies (52-53), who had won five in a row and nine of 10. “We are playing really well, and I think this is a good time for us to face the Dodgers and play really good baseball at home”.

“We have no one to blame but ourselves”, Yankees designated hitter Alex Rodriguez said. But as we know, sometimes two weeks leads to three and a half and now you’re talking about September 1st.

James Loney, who signed with the Mets following Duda’s injury, worked a 10-pitch walk in which he fouled off three consecutive 3-2 pitches.

It was the first home run allowed by Logan since Peter Bourjos connected for St. Louis on June 9 previous year, the Rockies said. But he settled in and finished with six solid innings under his belt, having allowed two runs on six hits. He was helped to the dugout by teammates.

“We didn’t have to carry him off the field in spring training”.

“Sometimes, as I’ve said before, getting out of your own way is the best medicine”, Walker said. I would not be surprised to see him out of the lineup tomorrow but he should be back for the homestand.

Cabrera is expected to see a doctor Monday.

The Mets are already keeping Cespedes out of center field, where he regularly played against right-handed pitchers before the injury.

Cespedes has eight hits in 38 at-bats (.211) since he first hurt his leg in a July 8 game against the Washington Nationals. In fact, a potentially wet field was one reason Collins held Cespedes out of the lineup.

Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post was the first to report Story’s absence, and he added that X-rays on the rookie’s thumb were negative.

Alejandro De Aza continued his strong play of late by going 2 for 3 with an RBI. It looked like Gonzalez had scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch later in the inning, but he was called out, a call which replay failed to overturn. “I was definitely safe”. Hence, unless the Mets can somehow figure it all out internally, the Mets are looking at a rough finish to the season, one that will need a miracle to happen for them to be in contention when September rolls around.
