Pokémon Go Tracking Site Shut Down, Fans Requesting Refunds
Popular Pokémon Go tracking site Pokévision has been shut down. They were hashtagged “OurMine” and claimed the hack was for Brazil, where Pokemon Go was yet to be released.
OurMine gained access to the account due to a failure on behalf of Hanke to secure it with a hard password. Further, the posts by the hacker directed users to check their account security.
“#OurMine | This hack for Brazil #POKEMONGOBRAZIL #PokemonGo4Brazil!?”one of the tweets read”.
And indeed, in addition to striking one for the gaming public of South America, OurMine has been styling itself as a “security firm”, so it also said that the takeover was a test of Hanke’s security, offering its services to help him upgrade. One of the hackers last tweets was that Hanke’s password on Twitter was just “nopass”, not the most secure password of a developer making millions of dollars per day through Pokemon GO. This suggests either Hanke isn’t aware of the hack or he hasn’t gained full control of his account yet. A SurveyMonkey data survey claims Pokémon GO is the biggest mobile game in United States history. It is possible that rather than being floored by a deliberate denial-of-service attack, Niantic’s servers were overwhelmed by high levels of demand from real people. The hacker group, recently hacked Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey’s account, Google CEO Sundar Pichai’s Quara account and Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s Twitter and Pinterest accounts.
