Sony Still On Board With PlayStation 4 and Xbox One Cross Play
CES, the world’s largest annual consumer technology trade show, runs from January 6-9 and is expected to feature 3,600 exhibitors showing off their latest products and services to more than 150,000 attendees.
While Sony and Microsoft have been holding off releasing a fully next-generation gaming console anytime soon, both companies have unveiled a couple of new consoles with significantly increased performance compared with their predecessors.
Meanwhile, the report noted that following Microsoft’s move to finally launch the Xbox One backwards compatibility previous year, the console has been continuously receiving updates, and the number of its compatible games has constantly been increasing as well.
While the article itself goes into much greater detail, the general consensus that, despite being initially called the PlayStation 4K, Neo won’t really be able to push native 4K resolutions on demanding triple-A games.
As for the specs of the new console, several leaked graphics specifications for the system has revealed that it matches quite closely the specs of AMD’s recently released Polaris-based graphics processing unit (GPU), the Radeon RX 480.
According to a reliable source, the Playstation 4 Neo will feature numerous high speed components. Furthermore, speculators say that Sony may be launching a slimmer version of PS4 that would compete with Xbox One S and Xbox One Scorpio. The Neo is also equipped with a total of 8GB of GDDR5 memory with a 218GB/s bandwidth. In the end, the Neo is still true to its claim as the high-spec PlayStation console in the family but, if the experiment is proven right, it may not be the game-changer a lot of people expect it to be.
Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida used a PlayStation VR event in Hong Kong last week to assure gamers that a PS4.5 Neo wasn’t needed to tackle virtual reality.
“Driveclub” VR is set to be released on October 13, Gematsu has learned.
