National Basteball Association Trade News: Ty Lawson Dealt To Houston Rockets
Lawson was arrested on Tuesday for his second DUI in 2015. It certainly doesn’t mean that the Rockets will be able to knock them off in a seven-game series, but they have a much better chance with Lawson than without.
But as it stands, both teams will benefit from the deal. One DUI can be, at best, an awful mistake. Lawson has become more expendable with each passing summer league game, in which Emmanuel Mudiay is showing he does have what it takes to be a star player in the National Basteball Association.
For Denver, the ability to secure a first-round pick in an otherwise barren market for Lawson was something of a coup for general manager TIm Connelly. While some may have issue with the way that saga in particular worked out, Lucas may be the ideal guy for helping Lawson get back on track. And now he’s off to Houston, where the Rockets hope to have bought a talented player low. Simply going to a facility isn’t going to get that job done, but perhaps the reality of being close to losing his career will sober him up a bit.
The Rockets will have a balanced team, as long as Ty Lawson can figure out that Lyft and Uber exist (seriously, Lawson has done promotional spots for Lyft, it’s not like he doesn’t know about taxis).
So while the Nuggets look mostly like last season, possibly weaker (might still be trying to trade Danilo Gallinari), it’s not that they mind.
The Pistons on the other hand could be preparing for a Brandon Jennings departure once a suitor shows interest. Obviously, Harden developed into one of the NBA’s elite players. Whether they start Ty or bring him off of the bench he would be a great addition to this up and coming Magic team.
Lawson, 27, has 2 years and a little more than million dollars left on his contract.
Reportedly the Rockets will get Lawson in exchange for Kostas Papanikolaou, Pablo Prigioni, Joey Dorsey and Nick Johnson plus a protected 2016 first-round draft pick to Denver.
