Rain postpones NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Pocono to Monday
Some claimed that if another driver was leading the race (Earnhardt Jr., Gordon, Danica Patrick etc.) NASCAR would have called the race sooner to award them a victory.
All of those drivers are now within the top 30 in points with Stewart ranked 27th.
Logano came out 16th when the race was restarted on lap 104 and a lap later Chase Elliott pushed him into the wall in the tunnel turn. The race eventually was won by Kurt Busch, but it made for a tough week for teams who needed to quickly turn around for the next week’s action.
Bush is a 10-year National Football League veteran who played five games with the 49ers last year before suffering a season-ending left knee injury when he slipped on the bare concrete bordering the Edward Jones Dome field in St. Louis.
The limited resource Front Row Motorsports organization, which enjoyed victory once before when David Ragan won at Talladega, now finds itself in position to have their driver in the Chase. Once the cars were halted, Buescher and his crew rooted for the rain and fog to stick around. Rosberg also picked up a five-second penalty and had to settle for fourth, after winning the Hockenheim race two years ago.
“I’m just trying to remember every rain dance I’ve ever learned”, Buescher said over his radio shortly after the race was stopped.
The victory does not assure Buescher a berth in the Chase.
Brad Keselowski finished in second place. Kyle Larson grabbed a spot on the Chase grid by finishing fifth in Indianapolis. “They made the call up on the box to pull it off. It’s going to stir up our whole year”.
Busch is tied with Brad Keselowski for the most wins on the season. It’s the second of two such races this season, and even though the courses reward different techniques (Watkins Glen favors more aggressive driving, Sonoma is more about smoothness), you can usually tie in performance at each because of how different these tracks are compared to traditional oval speedway racing.
“If you look at kind of where the midseason falls, typically you’re at Daytona, superspeedway race, then we’re at Kentucky with the new rules package”, he said. “Those guys were racing the heck out of each other and racing for their first win, and there was rain in the forecast, so that was for the win, in my opinion, and I think they had the same thing on their mind”.
While the weather ended the race, there was plenty of action in the middle of the event between Kyle Larson and Austin Dillon.
Joey Logano led a race-high 38 laps, but was forced to the garage on lap 106 when Chase Elliott got together with him while racing through Turn 2. After a caution for rain on lap 85, the yellow flag waved again – this time for fog – with 27 laps remaining.
Pole-sitter for the race is Martin Truex Jr.in the #78 Furniture Row Toyota Camry.
Truex encountered another tire problem on lap 99 that resulted in another caution.
Only the track known as the Tricky Triangle could produce a finish worthy of the Bermuda Triangle.
The race was postponed to Monday by rain at the track, and then was delayed at the start while track drying continued. What was gonna take dead leave for us and hopefully give us via prime opportunity to win the race. So was Earnhardt, who missed his third straight race because he suffers from symptoms of a concussion.
He destroyed his Penske Ford July 26 while testing at Watkins Glen International ahead of Sunday’s Cheez-It 355.
