Child found dead in basement of abandoned Chicago building
Alyssa Garcia, 27, Christian Camerena, 19, and Isaac Camarena, 17, all of Marquette Park, each face one felony count of concealing a death of a person and one felony count of attempted residential arson, police said Thursday.
As soon as firefighters arrived on the scene in the 1400 block of West Marquette Road around 9:30 p.m., they smelled an accelerant, indicating the fire inside the vacant home was deliberately set.
Chicago police say three people are charged in connection with a dead child whom firefighters found after putting out a small blaze in an abandoned home.
They were taken into custody after police saw them running away from the back of the building, officials said.
The child was believed to be between nine months and three years old, a Fire Department spokesman told Chicagoist. The three are to appear in bond court Thursday.
The child was wrapped in a small blanket that was smoking and was dead at the scene.
The Cook County medical examiner said an autopsy was inconclusive.
