John Kuhn signs with Saints, paper reports
This is the first Packers training camp in seven years without Kuhn.
“He loved his time there, but he wanted to play”, Gold said. New Orleans entered the day with the third-fewest cap space in the National Football League at barely $1.5 million. The 34-year-old was a pro bowler each of the past two seasons but wasn’t re-signed by the Packers following this year.
The fullback injured the meniscus in his knee during practice last week.
Kuhn rushed for 601 yards and 15 touchdowns and caught 81 passes for 572 yards and eight touchdowns with the Packers.
He spent the 2006 season with the Pittsburgh Steelers, but he found a home in Green Bay and missed just five games over nine seasons. Starter Mark Ingram, along with C.J. Spiller and Travaris Cadet, seem to have the Saints covered in terms of receiving backs, so Kuhn’s quiet competence here doesn’t seem needed.
The Saints are evaluating their options with fullback Austin Johnson’s spot on the team, according to a source.
