Putin praises Iran deal in call with Netanyahu
The United States and other world powers haven’t provided Israel with the details of the Iran nuclear deal, and especially the secret addendums concerning the agreements between Iran and the worldwide Atomic Energy Agency, a top Israeli security official told lawmakers on Tuesday.
Putin assured Netanyahu that the deal would prevent the Islamic republic from acquiring nuclear weapons.
The American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) and the Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) are behind a relentless pressure on Congress to vote against the recent nuclear accord with Iran, said Brandon Martinez.
Congress has until September 17 to review and vote either to reject or approve the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) reached between Iran, the US and the five world powers in the Austrian capital of Vienna. In exchange, Iran will restrict its nuclear program.
US President Barack Obama has also vowed to veto any congressional resolution seeking to reject the agreement.
In April, Russian President Vladimir Putin downplayed the importance of the ships but insisted that the French side reimburse Moscow “all expenses” if the contract were to be terminated.
In a call with Netanyahu, Putin said that the agreement would help secure nuclear non-proliferation and “have a positive impact on security and stability in the Middle East”.
According to an online transcript released by the Kremlin, Putin expressed certainty that the successful implementation of the Iranian nuclear deal will “strengthen the nuclear nonproliferation regime and positively affect the security and stability of the Middle East region”.
