Carlos Beltran Traded to Texas Rangers
Apparently Brian Cashman won the argument with the Steinbrenners and played the role of Snake Plisken and made a deal for his own “Escape from NY”. Those deals yielded more years of control, but clubs are growing increasingly willing to sacrifice future pieces for the present, as the Cubs, Red Sox, Indians, Giants and others demonstrated at the deadline.
Beltran has batted.281 with 414 home runs in 1,507 regular-season games with Kansas City, Houston, the New York Mets, San Francisco, St. Louis and Yankees.
If Swanson had not basically missed all of past year there is a chance he could already be in Double-A. The Yankees traded Carlos Beltran and Ivan Nova on Monday, joining Aroldis Chapman and Andrew Miller in an exodus of veterans from the Bronx. While he has appeared in the playoffs with the Astros, Mets, Cardinals and Yankees, Beltran remains in search of his first World Series title.
Cashman, visibly exhausted from days of deal-making, sat in front of a small Yankees backdrop in the news conference room at Citi Field and conceded the season in enemy territory.
“That was an area we thought we could make some changes”, general manager Jed Hoyer said.
The Yankees may not be all-in, but plenty of other teams throughout the Rust Belt sure are. So even though the Yankees lost two of their best relievers, they were able to acquire talent that will more than compensate for their loss.
For the first time in several years the New York Yankees were sellers and the fans loved it. He will be a big improvement over the production that the Rangers got from Prince Fielder earlier in the year and even a step up from what Jurickson Profar has done as a fill in player for them this year. “That’s not the way it works anymore”. From now on, no player can be dealt unless he goes unclaimed by everyone else. Beltran said he certainly is open to the idea. “But it’s baseball man, the new generation”. It’s the new generation. They’re trying to make right decisions and smart decisions, and if they’re not contending, they’re going to try to get rid of some players and get something in return. At 39-years-old and a free agent at the end of the season, though, it made sense for the team to trade him while they could still get a decent return.
Despite a great start to his Yankees’ career, Nova was never the same after undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2014. Really excited and cant wait to get after it!.
Lucroy’s club-friendly contract and solid all-around game made him an especially valuable trade target all season. I believe that you can win with the players in that room. What looked like a middle-of-the-road farm system, looks to be a top 5 system with an updated roster and fresh young talent. The Rangers’ first round pick in the 2015 draft struck out 55 batters while walking 27 in 65 innings and 16 starts. In exchange for Chapman the Yankees received shortstop Gleyber Torres, outfielder Billy McKinney, and outfielder Rashad Crawford. That run of contention and being legitimately considered a team that could win a championship on a year-in-and-year-out basis has gone on for a long time. “It’s not about being. a second wild-card team and winning one game or losing one”. NY agreed to send Texas $3,708,333 on December 31 to offset part of the just over $5 million remaining in Beltran’s $15 million salary.
“I think he could tell hitters the changeup is coming and they would have a tough time hitting it”, Hulett said. One of New York’s three All-Stars this summer, Beltran is hitting.300, including.343 since June.
“We’re going to see and test some of these things and evaluate it and it will give us a better idea of what we have going into 2017”, Cashman told Francesa.
He was running on a treadmill in the weight room when Yanks bullpen catcher Ramon Rodriguez told him about the trade. Tate will be a reliever for Low-A Charleston when he joins the Yankees organization, but that may not be a permanent stay, according to Newsday’s Laura Albanese. And we monitored the price to acquire starting pitching very, very closely. San Diego announced Monday it reacquired Rea from Miami and sent minor league pitcher Luis Castillo back to the Marlins.
Shortly after the trade, NY acquired Tyler Clippard from the Diamondbacks to soften the blow (at least a little) of losing Miller.
