Man dies in seven-storey Marble Arch chimney fall
A young man has died after falling into a chimney on top of a seven-storey building in central London.
Emergency services were called to Great Cumberland Place shortly before 1am this morning.
Officers said he is thought to have been sitting on the roof of the building in Great Cumberland Place, Westminster, when he fell backwards, as mentioned by the Metropolitan Police.
A spokesman said the recovery operation, which involved co-operation between police, the Air Ambulance, the London Ambulance Service and Fire Service, was “difficult and protracted”.
The building has five storeys above ground and two below ground, and the dead man was eventually found on the basement floor.
Next of kin have been notified of the incident and police are now awaiting formal identification.
The death will now be referred to the Coroner.
