Trump Backs Paul Ryan: “I Support and Endorse Our Speaker”
Donald Trump finally endorsed Republican speaker Paul Ryan on Friday, reversing himself after pointedly refusing to back the highest ranking elected Republican in an interview earlier this week.
For Trump, his rally Saturday marked the end of a week which saw several Republicans defect from his campaign and voice support for Clinton.
Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani said on ABC’s “This Week” that Trump’s endorsements showed he “has the ability and the understanding to realize that there are going to be disagreements and you’ve got to be able to reach out to the entire party”.
Mr. Trump announced he was setting up an economic advisory team to help guide him on economic policy. John McCain and New Hampshire Sen. Kelly Ayotte’s re-election efforts during the event.
The real estate mogul’s campaign immediately sent out a list-building email to supporters, writing, “It’s time to unite our Party and deny a third term of Obama”.
“He’s perhaps in a better position now to walk the line between out-and-out supporting Trump and rejecting him”, Skelley said.
Trump praised Ayotte, calling her a “rising star”. Wisconsin’s Republican state Assembly speaker, Robin Vos, released a scathing open letter saying he was embarrassed that Trump was leading the party ticket in November. “I like people that weren’t captured”. “We need very strong leadership”, Trump had said.
Trump’s reversal came amid a decline in his poll ratings both nationally and in crucial battleground states, with his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton establishing a solid lead in the aftermath of the party conventions. Big, big tent, remember? If Mr Trump can get back on message with a few carefully modulated speeches and at least a handful of news cycles without outrageous statements, the polls could again narrow to within a more typical partisan split.
Trump told the Post that Ryan had sought his endorsement in his Wisconsin primary, but that he was still “giving it very serious consideration”.
Duffy said he chose not to go to Green Bay because of his schedule.
Nehlen had released a statement defending Trump amid criticism over his remarks about the Muslim parents of a slain USA solider.
“I like Paul, but these are disgusting times for our country”. “Very important. We need the unity”.
In an interview earlier this week, Trump said he was “not quite there yet” when it came to endorsing Ryan in his primary race. “I’m not quite there yet”. “I love babies”, he told the crowd. He’s a strong conservative leader.
However the rocky path towards GOP unity plays out, Trump will have to win over Wisconsin’s Republicans to win the state.
This latest flip-flop further points to signs of Trump’s mental instability.
“I fully support and endorse Sen. And we may disagree on a couple of things, but mostly we agree”.
Donald Trump’s running mate, Mike Pence, is brushing off Republican concerns of turmoil in their campaign.
The group did not mention an endorsement of Democrat Hillary Clinton in its statement.
“I’m not going to try and psychoanalyze this stuff”, the House speaker told Weber.
