Eagles RT Johnson facing 10-game ban
Philadelphia Eagles offensive tackle Lane Johnson is about to be suspended 10 games for a second positive test for performance enhancing drugs, several media outlets are reporting.
The reports included one on the National Football League’s website.
Glazer tweeted: “Just heard from Lane Johnson, says he took an amino acid that was approved but tested positive for peptide”. You’re responsible for what goes in your body but he insists it was approved.
With Johnson now having to sit for the first 10 games, the Eagles will likely look at the watered-down free agent market for depth. Joel Corry of CBS Sports also pointed out a third PED suspension results in a two-year ban, if Johnson’s 10-game suspension is eventually confirmed by the NFL. “The other thing, with the tackles we have, [Matt] Tobin has done a nice job filling in over there”. If he loses his appeal, the Eagles will be without one of their top offensive players in Doug Pederson’s first season as coach. And that figures to compound Eagles fans’ fears at his position, considering 34-year-old starting left tackle Jason Peters will miss Thursday’s exhibition opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with a quad injury. It appears highly unlikely that the Eagles would completely part ways with Johnson at this point, but it can not be completely ruled out. Yet it was Matt Tobin who had replaced Peters at left tackle rather than Johnson moving over.
Dennis Kelly is listed as second-team tackle behind Johnson, but the Eagles could choose to move Allen Barbre to right tackle and insert Stefen Wisniewski in Barbre’s spot at left guard.
