Joey Bosa’s mom: ‘Wish we pulled an Eli Manning on draft day’

Defensive end Joey Bosa, the No. 3 overall pick by the Chargers in this year’s draft, is now holding out.

If Bosa fails to sign with the Chargers before November 15, the team retains the rights to him through the end of the 2016 league year even though he wouldn’t be able to play.

Joey Bosa’s mom may have be over estimating the value of her son thinking somebody would trade for him and give the Chargers enough to make it worth their while.

“You got to get in football shape”.

There’s also another big name from Chargers draft lore who fits in very well in this situation, and that’s New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning.

The marriage of Bosa and the Chargers hasn’t gotten off to the greatest of starts.

What’s so frustrating about this is that it’s hard to imagine a scenario in which Bosa, a supremely talented defensive end, will be cut four years from now.

The standoff between Joey Bosa and the San Diego Chargers is breaking records, with the former Ohio State standout still refusing to sign his rookie contract, holding out longer than anyone ever has since the new CBA was introduced in 2011.

Coach Mike McCoy raved about the toughness Bosa displayed over his three-year career.

The Chargers have not spoken to Bosa’s agent Tom Condon in more than a week and reports have been trickling out that the team is offering him LESS money than players taken after him.

San Diego’s training camp will continue Monday with the team’s seventh practice. This week, with the important third preseason game still in play if this is resolved soon, would be a fine time to strike a deal. Precedent around the league certainly supports compromising with Bosa on either, or both, of these issues.
