Why we arrested blogger – EFCC
Ironically, Usman who publishes abusidiqu.com is a prominent member of the Buhari Media Organisation that promotes the government policies while defending it against citizens’ backlash.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in the United Kingdom claims that blogger, Abubakar Usman Sidiq popularly known as “Abusidiq” was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in a move created to ruin President Muhammadu Buhari’s reputation.
The hashtag #FreeAbuSidiq has been vibrant on Nigeria’s twitter space since his detention.
The EFCC had arrested Abusidiqu on Monday “for offences bordering on cyber stalking”, a development which divided Nigerians on the social media with many calling for his release.
Our sources in the anti graft agencies revealed that the EFCC Acting Chairman, Ibrahim Magu has vowed to deal with Usman for persistently reporting on his corrupt activities.
Michael Bello said his client was released on an administrative bail with conditions that he must make himself available to the EFCC whenever he received an invitation to such effect.
But in a statement confirming the arrest of Usman issued on Monday evening, EFCC simply said the blogger was arrested for ‘cyber stalking.’ No further explanation was given on the offence.
Recall that on Monday, the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government, relaunched the War Against Indiscipline, WAI Brigade, in Abuja – a campaign first initiated by Buhari in 1983 under his despotic military regime.
