McIlroy to miss another title defense
“Unfortunately, I will not be defending my Bridgestone title”, said McIlroy.
On July 6, McIlroy, a 26-year-old from Northern Ireland, announced via Instagram that he ruptured the anterior talofibular ligament (ATFL) in his left ankle during a recreational game at home.
Rory McIlroy has confirmed he will not be defending his title at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational as he recovers from an injury. “Best of luck to all the competitors and I look forward to returning to Firestone [the course in Ohio] in 2016”. He had top-10 finishes at both the Masters and the U.S. Open.
American Chris Kirk will also sit out next week’s tournament. He broke his right hand prior to the British Open while playing with his children. He has earned $9.1 million, almost twice that of any other golfer on the tour.
Jordan Spieth can take the World No. 1 spot away from McIlroy at Firestone next week.
The four-time major victor was forced to miss the Scottish Open and the defence of his Open title at St Andrews. Two days, later he withdrew from The Open.
Day is in search of his second career World Golf Championships victory, having won the 2014 Cadillac Match Play.
