Lawsuit: Trump staffer pulled a gun on co-worker
A former North Carolina staffer is suing Donald Trump’s presidential campaign, saying a top employee in the state working on the Republican’s White House bid once pulled a gun on him and that after he reported it, the campaign took no action.
The lawsuit was filed Wednesday by Vincent Bordini against Earl Phillip and the Trump campaign in Mecklenburg County Superior Court.
The lawsuit was brought for “assault, battery and intentional infliction of emotional distress”.
Bordini said he also told Stuart Jolly, who at the time was Trump campaign’s national field director, in addition to Trump’s former campaign manager Corey Lewandowski. It says that the alleged incident took place while Trump campaign staffer Vincent Bordini was driving in a vehicle with Phillip.
“Phillip was driving and Vincent was in the passenger seat. They described Phillip yelling and screaming in anger while brandishing a pistol”, the lawsuit claims.
Trump generated a firestorm on Tuesday when, speaking at a rally in North Carolina, he suggested Second Amendment advocates might find a way to stop Hillary Clinton from rolling back gun rights if she’s elected.
Bordini previously worked as a software trainer for the Trump campaign.
“Vincent forewent alerting authorities because putting Mr. Trump in the White House was his goal”.
The suit alleges that Bordini learned of “at least four other” people on whom Phillip pulled a gun.
“Vincent was a passionate Donald J. Trump supporter”. According to Bordini, the director told him he once had a similar altercation with Phillip, adding he was “terrified” of the state director.
“Lewandowski said that he took Vincent’s complaint seriously”, Bordini says in the complaint. Bordini said he waited for months for the situation to be handled internally before realising “this was not going to happen”. WCCB, a local news affiliate in Charlotte, reported Phillip recently left the campaign. The campaign last paid him in mid-March, when he was reimbursed for travel expenses.
So far, there has been no comment from Trump’s campaign.
