Mark Hamill Reportedly Voicing The Joker In Batman: The Killing Joke
For me, Hamill’s portrayal of the Joker is on par with Heath Ledger in terms of tapping into what makes the character so horrific and charismatic. For those who don’t know, Hamill voiced the character in Batman: The Animated Series and in the Batman: Arkham video games. Via Collider, we have confirmation that veteran actor fan-favorite Mark Hamill will be lending his trademark vocals to Batman’s arch-nemesis for the animated adaptation of one of the greatest Batman stories of all time – Batman: The Killing Joke.
Hamill is once again The Joker.
The Killing Joke, originally an award-winning graphic novel, was written by Alan Moore and illustrated by Brian Bolland. It featured the Joker doing what he does best, tormenting those close to Batman including Barbara Gordon and Jim Gordon.
Created by Moore as his own take on Joker’s source and psychology, the story became famous for its origin of the Joker as a tragic character; a family man and failed comedian who suffered “one bad day” that finally drove him insane. Because really, you can’t have Hamill playing The Joker opposite a Conroy-less Batman. In 2008, DC Comics reprinted the story in a deluxe hardcover edition, which features new coloring by Bolland, with a more somber, realistic, and subdued palette than the original. Still, Geek Tyrant reported that the direct-to-video animated films made by Warner Bros. are usually hit or miss, but with the two legendary voice actors potentially attached onto the project and the resource material already filled with fail-safe plot points, there is very little space for Warner Bros.to make a mistake.
We will have more on this as it develops!
