Canada’s Rosie MacLennan advances to women’s trampoline final
Sheffield-based Bryony Page was a surprise victor of a silver medal in the trampoline at the Rio Olympics.
For the second successive Games she upstaged Chinese favorites Li Dan and 2008 Olympic champion He Wanna to earn Canada their second gold of the Rio Games.
MacLennan, 27, has established herself as one of Canada’s best athletes.
She entered the Games with a legitimate shot at gold but was in somewhat of a hole after two events, sitting in fifth place. The Canadians finished atop Group F with three victories after a historic win over Germany on Tuesday. We haven’t had a girl make the final yet, so for two of us to do it is wonderful. The schedule has been thrown into chaos throughout the regatta due to high winds and choppy water at Lagoa Stadium.
Early Friday morning, the rowing team of Patricia Obee and Lindsey Jennerich won a silver medal in the women’s lightweight double sculls event. Theisen-Eaton is part of a surging Canadian team that captured five medals at the 2015 world championships. Coming in the big aim was to make a final so it was really good to have done that. Meantime, four medals will be up for grabs Friday.
In the pool tonight, Hilary Caldwell will look for a medal in the women’s 200-metre backstroke.
The sole US women in the final, Nicole Ahsinger, completed two clean routines but did not finish in the top eight in the qualifying round, so she didn’t advance to the final.
