Donald Trump spokesperson claims Obama led United States into Afghanistan
“Barack Obama went into Afghanistan, creating another problem”, Pierson said.
Trump blamed audio issues on his infamous refusal to denounce the KKK on CNN months ago.
“Remember how Pierson blamed Obama for Captain Humayun Khan’s death in 2004?”, Mediaite asks today in reporting Pierson’s false accusation.
During the first year of his presidency, Obama approved a request for more troops in Afghanistan, and as his administration has sought to bring the war to a close, he has acknowledged that the United States military’s combat presence in Afghanistan will outlast his tenure. “And after 2007, al Qaeda was essentially in ashes”, Pierson told CNN anchor Victor Blackwell, continuing a discussion on her candidate’s recent shifting positions on whether Mr. Obama founded the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria.
Then Pierson pivoted to the Afghanistan theater.
As most schoolchildren know, President George W. Bush invaded Afghanistan after the 9/11 attacks, on October 7 of 2001. “Is that what you’re saying?”
“Obama was a state senator in IL at the time, moonlighting as a restaurant critic”.
Pierson attempted to push back on CNN after a commercial break.
Pierson replied: “That was Obama’s war, yes”.
“Remember, we weren’t even in Afghanistan by this time”.
After becoming the president in 2008, Obama vowed to end the Afghan war – one of the longest conflicts in U.S. history – but he failed to keep his promise.
During the earlier snafu, Pierson also claimed that Hillary Clinton was Obama’s co-director in charge of the entire war effort.
Pierson may have been mistakenly referring to the 2009 troop surge President Obama had reluctantly agreed to, sending thousands of reinforcements into Afghanistan after the US seemed to lose its footing in the region.
When a Trump adviser said recently of Pierson’s fact-free interviews, “I think we’re fixing it, I guarantee you that won’t happen again with her, that’s for sure”.
