Seven injured in explosion at Texas oil plant
The flash fire occurred before 9 p.m. Friday at the Nederland terminal. Our prayers are with them.
There’s no word on what caused the flash fire, but the Sheriff’s Office says there’s no threat to the public.
“There was no impact to nearby residents. The U.S. Coast Guard was on site as well Friday”, Shields said in a prepared statement.
Seven people were injured, including four critically, in an explosion at a Texas crude-oil plant, authorities said.
Four of the injured employees were listed as in critical condition after the fire which broke out during welding work on a pipeline, sheriff’s office spokesman Marcus McLellan said.
The sheriff’s office, Nederland Police Department and Acadian Ambulance responded to the scene in the 2300 block of Twin City Highway.
Crude oil, condensate, naphtha, base and extract oils are stored at the facility, which has a total crude oil storage capacity of approximately 24 million barrels in approximately 130 above ground storage tanks, according to the company. It does so “in connection with the Mariner South pipeline project”, which began providing transport of propane and butane products from the Mont Belvieu region to the Nederland terminal, in December 2014.
