Assam CM condemns ULFA attack in Tinsukia
Suspected ULFA (Independent) militants opened fire indiscriminately on a group of Hindi-speaking people in Tinsukia district of Assam on Friday evening, killing two persons and injuring six others.
Chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal condemned the incident, which occurred under Doomdooma police station area, and directed officials to all that was necessary in nabbing the culprits.
Meanwhile, an Assam Police Battalion personnel was killed and another injured in an accidental firing at Karbi Anglong district in Assam on Saturday morning, police said.
“The incident occurred at about 8 p.m. Combing operations are on”.
Superintendent of police of the district, Mugdha Jyoti Mahanta told ET, “A group of persons came to a village and started indiscriminate firing”.
Two persons, who were killed in the attack have been identified as Kishori Teli and Rajesh Shah.
The injured were first rushed to Tinsukia district civil hospital and then referred to Assam Medical College Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh.
They also alleged that security agencies were aware of a probable attack by the militants in the area but did not deploy adequate forces.
