Man scales facade of Trump Tower; police grab him
The Internet was quickly captivated by the climber, who was working his way up the side of the midtown Manhattan building using suction cups on Wednesday, August 10. Trump also lives there, but he wasn’t there at the time.
Special operations officers could be seen grabbing the unidentified climber and pulling him into an opened window on the building’s 21st floor Wednesday evening. He was arrested on charges of reckless endangerment and criminal trespass.
Later, the New York Police Department, at a news conference, said the unidentified man did not express a desire to harm anyone and said his mission was to meet Trump.
After an hour, someone broke a window on the 16th floor – a few stories above the climber – and hung blankets over the broken glass to try and hamper the man’s progress and lure him in.
He ended the video by showing support toward Trump’s presidential campaign.
The NYPD also tweeted out a warning advising New Yorkers to avoid the area.
It wasn’t immediately clear if Rogata has an attorney.
The man, whose identity has not been released, started his ascend from the 5th floor of the 58-storey high Trump Tower and he was eventually captured by the police from the 21st floor.
“When it presented itself, I reached out, took hold of his hand and said, “Sir, please come with me”, and I brought him inside with the help of my partner”, Williams said.
He was taken to a hospital for psychiatric evaluation.
I doubt “Steve” will be getting his requested meeting with the candidate.
“The reason I climbed your tower was to get your attention”. “Believe me, if my objective was not significant, I would not risk my life pursuing it”, he says, addressing Trump. He “performed a ridiculous and risky stunt”, a statement from Trump Organization executive Michael Cohen was quoted.
“Hello Mr. Trump. Excuse my matter of appearance, I just don’t know how many people will watch this and I’d rather not be recognizable”.
“I’m 100 percent certain the NYPD had better things to do”, he said.
Terraces and other parts of the building are open to the public during the day.
