Tim Tebow To Try His Hand At Baseball Career
A major league scouting director told ESPN’s Jayson Stark on Tuesday: “Eleven years [of not playing baseball], nobody can overcome that”. “I have seen Tim’s workouts, and people inside and outside the industry – scouts, executives, players and fans – will be impressed by his talent”. His work ethic is unprecedented, and his passion for the game is infectious. “He knows the challenges that lie ahead of him given his age and experience, but he is determined to achieve his goal of playing in the Major Leagues”, Van Wagenen said.
“Obviously we support Tim in his pursuit of a baseball career, as we have in all his ventures”, said Jimmy Sexton, Tebow’s football agent, who is now working with baseball agent Brodie Van Wagenen.
The Schaumburg Boomers, an independent team that plays in the Frontier League, have offered Tebow a contract.
“I spent time with Tim Tebow in the cages”, Sheffield wrote, “he’s a NATURAL”.
Tim Tebow is seeking a comeback, but it’s not in the sport for which he became a first-round draft pick. He has not played in the National Football League since 2012 with the New York Jets.
An All-State baseball player in Florida in 2005, Tebow hit.494 as a high school junior and lefty-hitting outfielder, helping Nease High School reach the final four of the Florida state playoffs. He was most recently released in training camp by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2015.
He held a tryout with the Dodgers prior to the season, according to ESPN’s Darren Rovell, and is expected to hold another for major-league teams at the end of the month.
Tebow will never play in an MLB game, but don’t be surprised if he plays for a minor league team somewhere because he is going to sell tickets. “Even the lower A-ball, the lower rungs of professional baseball, are still pretty good baseball”. I’d think he’s be a corner outfielder, but can he track a ball off the bat from 300 feet away?
