Lets not pack Dak Prescott off to Canton just yet
Rams running back Todd Gurley and defensive end Robert Quinn also did not play, as a crowd of 89,140 saw Cowboys wide receiver Lucky Whitehead score on a 101-yard kick return to welcome the National Football League back to Southern California after a 22-year absence.
Rams jerseys from all eras filled the streets and parks around the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and the stands inside for the first time in decades.
Dallas’ Lucky Whitehead barely was touched as he returned the opening kickoff 101 yards for a touchdown, and throughout the first half, Rams defensive backs made little contact with Dallas receivers.
And what Romo watched was his backup complete 10 of 12 passes – with two drops for his incompletions – and a pair of touchdowns in a first half that saw the Cowboys leap out to a 24-7 lead, in a game they’d eventually lose to the Los Angeles Rams, 28-24.
The Rams’ first touchdown, a run by Benny Cunningham, brought the day’s biggest roar, as though it finally made the move official.
DeMarco Murray ran for a 71-yard touchdown and rookie Derrick Henry also scored and the Tennessee Titans’ new-look rushing attack delivered an impressive debut in a 27-10 preseason victory over the Chargers.
But after lackluster offseason and committing several penalties during the Cowboys preseason opener against the L.A. Rams on Saturday, that hope is all but gone.
Miguel Angel Jimenez handled gusty winds and shot a 1-under 69 to grab the lead after the third round of the U.S. Senior Open Championship. He’s at 3-under 207 through 54 holes at Scioto Country Club in suburban Columbus, Ohio.
Prescott answered quickly, connecting with Terrance Williams on a 32-yard touchdown 1:32 into the second quarter. Todd Gurley did not play for the Rams.
Sean Mannion was definitely the MVP for the LA Rams in their first preseason game back in LA.
All three quarterbacks played in this game.
Along with Goff, there was another rookie quarterback playing in this game. During his first series, on his second pass attempt Goff was intercepted by Cowboys linebacker Mark Nzeocha.
Mannion, a third-round pick past year, completed 18-of-25 passes for 147 yards and three touchdowns. Boykin, the undrafted rookie from TCU, led the team on the 88-yard scoring drive in four plays that used the final 67 seconds. Sean Mannion connected with Reynolds early in the third quarter to pull the team within 24-14.
The Cowboys have opted not to make an addition to their quarterback group following Kellen Moore’s broken ankle with owner Jerry Jones saying that fourth-round pick Dak Prescott has done enough in practice to get an opportunity to serve as Tony Romo’s backup this season.
On his next possession, Goff almost put the Rams in position to pick up points before halftime but rookie Pharoh Cooper dropped a pass in the red zone.
