Boy Died Of Neck Injury On Water Slide
Regulations adopted by the department in May 2010 require only that the owners of permanent amusement rides retain records for them for the state’s possible inspection, but only for a single year.
Caleb Schwab was at Schlitterbahn with his mom, dad and brothers. One of its most popular attractions, 168-foot-tall Verruckt, which means “insane” in German, opened in 2014. Schwab was apparently riding a raft with two unrelated women when the accident happened.
Park officials said that the amusement park would remain closed at least until Wednesday and the water coaster will be shut down as the matter is investigated. Riders have to be at least 54 inches tall in order to get on the water slide.
Kansas City TV station KCTV reported that the park told the station at the time that the ride was “not behaving properly”, after which netting was added around the slide. “You have a lap belt and a shoulder belt to hold you into that ride vehicle”, Gannon said.
Kenneth Conrad told WDAF-TV that he rode the waterslide previous year with a friend whose shoulder strap came “completely off”. Conrad says he didn’t file a complaint with the park.
Caleb Thomas Schwab died on Sunday at the Schlitterbahn waterpark on the Verrückt water slide, which sends riders plunging down 17 stories at up to 50 miles an hour (80 kph).
Authorities initially said the victim was 12 years old, but Clint Sprague, a pastor who is acting as a spokesman for the family, said Caleb was 10. A memorial service is scheduled for Friday afternoon.
On Tuesday, officials at the park said they will open their gates to visitors Wednesday at noon.
The circumstances surrounding his death are still being investigated.
“It is a death investigation”. Emergency responders found the boy dead in a pool at the end of the ride. They suffered minor facial injuries and were treated at an area hospital, police said.
Caleb Schwab, the 10-year-old son of Christian Republican Kansas state Rep. Scott Schwab, who died at the Schlitterbahn water park in Kansas City on Sunday while riding the Verrückt, known as the world’s tallest water slide, was decapitated during the ride, local police and eyewitnesses confirmed on Monday.
The police statement on the tragedy does not say what caused Caleb’s death, but it does indicate the fatal injury occurred “at the end” of the ride.
Schwab was riding the slide with two other women, who officials say were not related to him.
