Local flash flood watch remains in effect
The service’s office in Burlington, Vermont, said that St. Lawrence County and other parts of northern NY and Vermont could see as much as 2 inches of rain Friday, and an additional 2.5 inches of rain on Saturday.
The National Weather Service issued the watch at 5:05 a.m. Sunday due to a deep tropical moisture and slow-moving storms that will contribute to producing excessive rainfall at some locations today.
A surge in monsoonal conditions is expected to bring heavy rain and windy conditions with the heaviest rain expected to occur from Saturday through Tuesday.
Hardest hit was St. Helena Parish, where the tiny town of Greensburg was completely surrounded by water.
Sunday’s high in Killeen will be 89 degrees with about 60 percent humidity, making the heat index feel close to 95 degrees, he said.
Observers are calling the record-breaking floods a “classic signal of climate change”, as reports predict that the rain the state experienced Friday isn’t the last of it.
NWS states to monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take actions hold flash flood warnings be issued.
